At TrainingPeaks, we’re in business of helping people to achieve their goals, so when it came to giving back for the holiday season we naturally decided to set ourselves a goal: by January 1, 2014, TrainingPeaks would like to purchase 300 bikes for World Bicycle Relief in order to change over 1000 lives.

To do this, we’ll need to raise $40,200. That’s why we need your help.

Will you help us to achieve our goal?

As cyclists and triathletes, bikes have transformed our lives through competition and exercise. But in rural parts of Africa, bikes can transform a family’s basic quality of life - by providing transportation to necessities like education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

Your dollar goes a long way:

  • For $134 you can buy a rugged Buffalo bicycle for a student, healthcare worker or entrepreneur in rural Zimbabwe or Zambia. The bikes are specially designed to stand up to the rough terrain in rural Africa.
  • For $25, you’ll pay for a new wheelset.
  • $50 provides a mechanics toolkit.

In fact, your dollar will go even further as part of this challenge - World Bicycle Relief has pledged to match every dollar donated to TrainingPeaks. So if you contribute enough for one bike, you’ll actually put two in the field.

Besides empowering people to improve the quality of their lives in whichever way they find best, World Bicycle Relief employs only local staff to assemble as well as maintain the bikes. Over 60 assembly staff work in the World Bicycle Relief facilities to put together the bikes once they arrive disassembled from Taiwan, and the organization has also developed a Field Mechanics Training Program to make sure the bikes remain in good shape once they've been distributed. Over 850 local field mechanics have been trained in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Even if you can’t donate these sums, please feel free to give what you can. No donation is too small - every dollar counts. TrainingPeaks CEO Gear Fisher has already kicked off the challenge by donating 10 bikes.

This holiday season, please join us in our 300 Bike Challenge. With your help we can give 600 people and their families (remember the match) one of the best gifts we could think of - the Power of Bicycles.
