Stage 1 - Sacramento Circuit -120 Miles

The first stage of the Tour of California was a stressful, windy ride for everyone. Boswell was up to the task of protecting team leader Sir Bradley Wiggins and made the 15 man split in the cross winds. Eventually though he was popped from the group but still rode strong to the finish line.

Stage 3 - San Jose to Mt. Diablo State Park - 108.5 Miles

The Queen stage of the race had two major climbs, the last one being to the finish. Boswell and the rest of the peloton raced up the 22 switchbacks of Mt. Hamilton first, then tackled the 10 mile ascent up Mt. Diablo. 

Again, Boswell was supporting his team and did his job well. He stayed with the front group along with several other Team Sky riders as they protected the leaders jersey of Wiggins. During the trip up Mt. Hamilton Boswell managed to hold 307W for 1:15 to stay up front.

Stage 4 - Monterey to Cambria - 102.6 Miles

Moving away from the mountains, the fourth stage ran along the coast giving riders a bit of a respite from the heat and hills. Boswell spent some time at the front of the group and rode a strong but conservative effort.

Stage 7 - Santa Clarita to Pasadena - 88.7 Miles

Stage 7 had a few early climbs before finishing on three circuits around Pasadena. Again, Boswell and the other team riders were tasked with keeping race leader Wiggins out of any danger. In the final three circuits Boswell averaged 292W and 29 mph for just under 20 minutes.

Stage 8 - Thousand Oaks Circuits - 76.1 Miles

The final stage of the Tour of California was a fast ride for the peloton. Each of the three circuits around Thousand Oaks featured the 3 mile long "Rock Store" climb. Boswell had to increase his effort every time up, hitting 364NP the first time, 373NP the second,  and 388NP for final ascent. Once over the top they still had to protect the lead and Boswell finished strong holding over 300NP for the final 30 minutes of racing. The final day also saw Boswell produce his highest Normalized Power for a stage with 301W.

Weekly Totals:

  • TSS: 1,426 - An average rider would accumulate 200-300 points per week. 
  • Kilojoules: 26,986 - The equivalent of 77 Skratch Labs sweet potato and egg burritos. 
  • Elevation Gain: 52,300 ft. - That is equal to 236 Golden Gate Bridges stacked on each other.
