Jonathan is a proud father of a son and daughter who are the most important gifts in his life. He grew up an athlete competing in sports through college. In his mid-twenties, what had always been a strong heart murmur developed into a faulty aortic valve, requiring his first open-heart surgery in the late 90s. After the requisite recovery period he returned to running, mountain biking and racing, often winning his age group and placing in the top 10 overall. After 8 years the first replacement valve wore out and in 2007 he had his second open heart surgery. Again he was back to competing as soon as possible. In the late summer of 2010 he competed in his first triathlon. Since then, triathlon has become his primary sport and passion. Jonathan competes in sprint distance up to Ironman 70.3 with great success. In his first full year he qualified and competed in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship. In addition he qualified for the USAT Age Group National Championship to be held next year and the Lifetime Triathlon Championship both Olympic distance races.

He wouldn’t change anything about his heart and the path it his taken him. There will be another open heart surgery but he will be racing until the doctor says stop.
