Social Worker, 6+ Years Racing Triathlon
“I work in protective services for children. Triathlon is for me a way to relax from a workday. TrainingPeaks helps me to plan my weeks and I can access it everywhere. I have a demanding job and a family, but I believe that by planning ahead you can combine family life and sport in a way that is okay to everyone.”
Rene Goedhart is almost 44 years old. He is married and has two children;:a boy (19) and a girl (15). He is living in the Netherlands. He works full-time as a child protection social worker. Eight years ago he started his triathlon adventure. He started with spinning classes, came in contact with cyclists and started biking outside. Every season he chose a a longer triathlon distance. In 2007 he did his first long distance triathlon in Cologne, Germany in 12:15. Last year he completed Ironman Frankfurt in 10:19. Since 2008 he has had a swim coach, named Ina. With the help of Ina and her husband, Rene’s 3.8K swim time improved from 1:10 to 59 min, and is still progressing. He is lucky to have a spouse who supports his dream to be a finisher in Hawaii, next year or at retirement age. He hopes to complete it together in the future with his daughter Esmee. He refuses to stop believing in himself.
