Simon Whitfield

Professional Triathlete - Victoria, BC, Canada

4x Olympian, Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist

"TrainingPeaks has been essential for communicating with my coach, and evaluating workouts and progression."

Simon Whitfield humbly describes himself as a “dad who loves to dance with his little girls. And the relentless pursuit of whatever he puts his mind too.” His favorite song line is, “It’s a good life if you don’t break too many guitar strings and it’s a pretty good life if you do” (from The Tragically Hip, It’s a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken).

However, the world most remembers Whitfield for his come-from-behind victory at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, when he got up from a 14-man bike crash, then picked off competitors one at a time during the run to take the gold medal. Eight years later, Whitfield sprinted back from a distant fourth during the 2008 Beijing Games to take the silver medal, and in the 2012 London Olympics proudly carried the flag for Canada at the opening ceremonies. Between Olympic Games, Whitfield has won a staggering 12 national championships and 14 world cup victories.
