The story of the day for Gustav Larsson was pretty much the same as the other 107 finishers of today's stage. Although three riders were away for the majority of the stage (one was Team Saxo Bank rider Jason McCartney), and unfortunately a handfull of riders also crashed which sent a few to the hospital. Gustav was able to stay out of the crashes and his main duty was to cover the early attacks and then help his team leader Jens Voigt and his team sprinter JJ Haedo.

"It was a fast start and Gustav covered some early moves," explains Team Saxo Bank's Rider Development Manager Bobby Julich. "But once the group got away with Jason (McCartney) up the road, it calmed down a bit."

However before the peleton eased up their was some very hard racing taking place. Gustav recorded an average of 415 watts for 11 minutes on the first King of the Mountain climb, and on top of that he averaged 335 watts for the first hour of racing.

Gustav's duty in the final hour of the race was to look after JJ Haedo who ended up 3rd in a close sprint. For the most part Bobby said, "Gustav felt OK and was happy to race in the sun and not the rain."
