July 5, Stage 2: Brussels - Spa 201km
1 Sylvain Chavanel (Fra) Quick Step 4:40:48
2 Maxime Bouet (Fra) AG2R La Mondiale 0:03:56
3 Fabian Wegmann (Ger) Team Milram
186 Chris Anker S.rensen (Den) Team Saxo Bank 0:19:03
Tough day in the Office for Chris. He was charged with following the early moves today and spent nearly 23 minutes at his FTP in the first part of the stage. The middle part of the stage was a lot harder than yesterday and Chris rode more at his tempo pace than he did in Stage 1. The climbs at the end of the stage definitely had him on the limit, especially the last one Col Du Rosier where he was at his FTP the whole time at 393 watts normalized. There appears to be two places in the file in which he was stopped and I don't know if he crashed or stopped and waited for the Schlecks. Look right at 5 hours into the ride to see this. A much tougher stage today is also confirmed by Chris's TSS of 333 and an IF of .80 for the entire 5:10 stage. His Normalized power was 306 watts for the stage and that' quite an increase from 205 TSS yesterday and normalized power of 249.
A very dangerous and tough situation in the finish and it's too bad as both the fans and the riders competing for the green jersey would have liked to have seen a field sprint while at the same time all the contenders crashed and holding up the peloton to allow others to get back on was the right thing to do. Let's hope that tomorrow in the cobbles will be better!
