Stage 3

Team Saxo Bank (along with most teams) chose to use specially designed bikes for the rough roads of stage 3. This meant power meters remained on their original race bikes so unfortunately no data was available for this stage.

We will assume Chris Anker Sorensen's TSS value to be around 330 given that stage 2 was 325 TSS points. Stage 3 was 20 minutes shorter than the second stage, however stage 3 was arguably more aggressive and harder. The cobbles demand very high power output with very little advantage gained from drafting.

Team Saxo Bank had a day which resulted in success for Andy Schleck who put time into all of his main rivals, except for Cadel Evans. Andy made the final selection of six riders which also included his teammate Fabian Cancellara. However, stage 3 will also be remembered as a sad loss for Saxo Bank as Frank Schleck crashed and broke his collarbone on one of the cobbled sections.
