Stage 1: Mawson Lakes - Angaston138 km

The first stage of the Tour Down Under was a relatively short stage and there was no surprise that the day would end in a field sprint. Ben Swift stayed safe and helped teammate Chris Sutton get 4th on the stage.

"TOUR DOWN UNDER STAGE 1 - SO TOUR DOWN UNDER GOT UNDER WAY TODAY. LEGS FELT GOOD AND THE TEAM SPIRIT WAS HIGH. THE ROLLING HILLS GOT THE RACE RYTHEM BACK AND THE HEAT WAS A NICE RACING TEMPETURE. THE BUNCH WAS A CRAZY AT THE FINISH AS IT WAS IN THE CRIT AND UNLUCKY FOR US AT TEAM SKY WE LOST EACH OTHER IN THE RUN IN. CJ DID A GREAT RIDE TO GET 4TH. TEAM SKY IS KNOCKING AT THE DOOR FOR A STAGE WIN"

Ben Swift

The stage was won by Matthew Goss who also won Sunday's Cancer Council Classic event. His second victory of the week shows he is certainly the man to beat for the overall Tour Down Under Victory. Team Sky has several riders who can potentially take the lead including Chris Sutton and Greg Henderson.
