The final stage of the Tour de France played out as expected. The final laps in Paris on the Champs-Elysees proved to be the ultimate playground for Team Columbia’s British ace sprinter Mark Cavendish. Stage 20’s epic stage was dreamed up by the Tour de France race director Christian Prudhomme. He wanted the ultimate showdown between the top general classification riders the day before the race ended on the streets of Paris. The majority of Chris Anker’s duties were completed on the first three climbs of stage 17 in order to soften the field up. Saxo Bank literally banked everything on today’s stage and sketched out a plan to destroy the entire field. Stage 16's final climb was the Category 1 Petit-Saint-Bernard, however this was no small affair. Chris Anker Sorensen rode at maximum effort at the bottom of "Saint-Bernard" climb to set up his teammate Andy Schleck's attack of Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong. Stage 15 was the first major test of the Alpine stages and included a mountain top finish, the second of three in this year’s Tour. Stage 12 was an exciting day for Team Saxo Bank as Nicki Sorensen won today's stage out of a 7-man breakaway. Chris Anker Sorensen remained in the field with his team leader Andy Schleck and had his fourth hardest day of the Tour so far. Stage 7 saw Chris Anker Sorensen’s duties switch from protecting Fabian Cancellara’s lead, to helping Andy and Frank Schleck move up in the general standings. After a brutal climb up to the ski station of Arcalis in the principality of Andorra, there were two Team Saxo Bank riders left in the group of eleven favorites. Alberto Contador of team Astana broke away in the final 5kms and finished 21 seconds ahead of the group that also contained Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer. Today was a hard stage which will make tomorrow's mountain debut even tougher for sore legs. Chris Anker summed up today's stage by saying, "I suffered the first 50 km...and the last 130".
