Race Analysis

Sorensen attacks with 1km to go!

Chris Anker Sorensen saw his opportunity today and attacked with 1 km to go up the final pitch of the Super Bessy Climb.  He averaged 545 watts for the hard 1 minute attack and although he was caught, it was an impressive effort.

On the penultimate climb up the Col De Croix Saint Robert, Sorensen rode strong and near the front of the peloton, but wasn’t too pressed as he averaged only 342 watts over the climb which is solidly in his Tempo zone. On the final climb though, it was a different story. Up the Super Bessy climb, Sorensen rode at his FTP for the entire 13 minutes for an average wattage of 398 watts. That is exactly his FTP and he rode right at the front of the climb keeping Contador out of trouble and in contention for the stage win.

Sorensen attacked hard on the final climb as he saw his chance to go for the stage win. Unfortunately this was brought back and then he rode easy to the finish line losing 1:16 to the stage winner. Very exciting though to see Sorensen going for the stage win today and giving it his best!
