Jakob came from the world of mountain biking before turning pro in 2009 for Team Saxo Bank. Bobby Julich has high hopes for Jakob and described him as having an amazing rookie season, and if they knew how talented he was going to be they would have added him to the Tour de France squad last year. Fuglsang finished 6th in the Dauphine Libere, and had several podium finishes in his first Grand Tour which was the Vuelta.

In 2010 Team Saxo Bank hopes to have Jakob strong and read to go for this year's Tour de France. So far in 2010 he has ridden in a support role for the Schleck bothers and his training has been going very well since Paris-Nice.

Bjarne Riis then acted quickly and signed a contract with Jakob for the 2009 season.
Jakob first year at team Saxo Bank has been fantastic with victories in Tour of Slovenia and Tour of Denmark. At the same time Jakob has showed that he can keep up with the best climbers in the world.
