Now that is the Flecha that I am used to seeing! Front group at the finish baby and heck of an effort as well. Way to go Flecha! He killed it yesterday in the final for his leader Wiggins and then lost time. Today, he killed it, kept Wiggins out of trouble AND stayed in the front elite group at the finish! Flecha is getting stronger… Watch out peloton! Good things are coming for him later this month I believe!
The final climb to the finish? 494 watts for 4 minutes and 14 seconds, with 5 hours of HARD, HARD racing in his legs. THAT is the Flecha I know. His peak 10 minutes of the race came with about 15 minutes to go in the race and that was 381 watts, which is sub- threshold, but still hard.
What is going on in this Tour? On paper, these first stages are easier than last year, but in reality all the riders are suffering and having to work HARD. Flecha is really coming into his own and I am SUPER excited to see what is to come. Today was the hardest stage so far in the tour with Flecha scoring 287 TSS points and a Normalized Power of 312 watts for the entire 5:13 stage! Most amateur cyclists would kill for a 20 minute best wattage of 312, and to do it for 5+ hours... UNBELIEVEABLE.
Download the TrainingPeaks WKO+ file and see for yourself or view his race in the TrainingPeaks.com Interactive File Viewer, because this Tour is just getting better and better. Flecha, make sure you rest more tomorrow, because your day is coming soon!!!
